Artist's Comments

1) A key that opens many doors, that holds together, or possibly just overshadows in its glaring fluorescence, the world around it...
2)Shatterfall and my ears might burn deafly, but when such a light grows from that pulsating origin, I can only surrender to its lead.

36" x 36" acrylic, oil on canvas

Maybe one of my favourite pieces by you, maybe because of the dark background. The play of sights is great :)

The structure was weak.
The new one is stronger.

But now it's continuously trembling.

I love the way that you can paint depth of field. This is a truly beautiful and intimate painting, and the way you depict at once the distance and closeness between the two people is astounding - very much a universal set of emotions, I read it as the man sleeping and the woman lying awake, composed, holding herself in.

The dark background really brings out this painting, and probably my favourite part of the painting is the figure on the left - most specifically, the white line separating him from the dark. When I saw this painting, I thought at once of the Studio 54 logo - [link] - how relevant that might be I'm not sure, but it adds another sort of meaning to this piece for me.

If I have any complaints, it would have to be the purple bit in the middle - it works compositionally, vying with the faces to make a triangular frame of focal points - but it appears vulgar in a way I'm not sure is entirely conscious. Or maybe it is - either way, I'm greatly pleased to see such a powerful new work from you.

I've finally discovered why I like what you do so much. I'm not sure you really do what I think, I might have made it up, but it seems to me that you choose so carefully what to show allowing images to contort and blur revealing what you find necessary to see. And this is the element which brings across reality and emotion, because I know that at least in my mind I distort/see reality differently but in changing it I see what is more important.

Yes I realise this whole rant is most likely uncomprehensable and or just off base.

Not at all! It's true that, in a self-absorbed way, I paint what I paint so you can see what I see. My challenge is to focus on what I find important while still creating a composition that connects the elements... hopefully making an even more compelling case for my subjective vision.

Thanks for liking it :)

The melding of the forms and the lost-and-found elements of anatomy are intriguing. Your work is spectacular.
